Push Back the Darkness.

Our world is full of darkness. Hate and anger surround us on every side. Satan is hard at work, driving wedges to destroy the light and make the darkness complete. As Christians, we are called to push back the darkness. We must not give him another inch!

How can I push back the darkness? Sometimes it seems overwhelming. What can I, one person, do to accomplish this?

When I was a child, I learned that if I turned on a light, the darkness would disappear. Sometimes I would turn on every light in the house.  The more light the better!

Darkness and light can’t occupy the same place at the same time. Think about a lighthouse – a beacon of light across the sea. How vital light was to those traveling in the darkness on the open sea? How devastating is a lighthouse whose light has failed!

The Bible tells us that God created the heavens and the earth and everything else that exists by simply speaking them into existence (Genesis 1).

God spoke the words, “Let there be light,” at the creation of the world, and light appeared. This act showed God’s power and absolute control. The physical light that God made on the first day of creation is a wonderful picture of what He does in every heart that trusts in Christ. We no longer need to walk in the darkness of sin and death.

According to John 8:12, we “shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life”.

Yes, we are living in an age of darkness. Ephesians 6:12 says: “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places”. This shows us there IS a fight – a fight of faith – against the evil in our world. To fight any battle, you must be equipped. This battle is no different. So, if we want to push the darkness back, we must be armed! Our first duty is to pray.

Look at Ephesians 6 and read about the whole armor of God. This is what we must be equipped with. We can’t fight this battle, or any others, in our own strength. We must pray and prepare using the tools God has given us.

Ask the Lord to show you ways to push back the darkness in your world, your country,
your neighborhood and even your family. Make “your light shine before all men,
that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Mt. 5:16

About Gail Pinder

I was born in New Jersey and raised in a small town in Pennsylvania. I have lived in many places – Texas, Arkansas, Delaware and finally Michigan. Several years ago, I met a wonderful man – a Vietnam Navy vet who shares my love of God and Country! We have been happily married for more than 18 years. I have two children of my own and Emery has two children. We have four wonderful grandchildren. Emery and I both have Multiple Sclerosis. He is now in a powerchair and I am his caregiver. Life is somewhat challenging, but we do the best we can. We tell everyone that “We have MS, but it doesn’t have us!” I have always loved to write and my dream was to becoming a “writer”. PICC gave me a window to my dream and an opportunity to share my thoughts with others. Our faith is strong and I don’t know where we would be without it. We are determined to spread a little sunshine in a darkened world.
