When Temptation Closes In, Remember

Have you ever been at a place in your life experiences where it seemed as if the rope you’re holding on to during times of temptation is slipping right from your grasp? You’ve tried so hard to fight off the temptation to sin; the more you stand your ground, the more intense the battle gets. The truth is we have all been to that place more than once; we will undoubtedly be to that place again in our future. Remember, you are not alone; In our walk with the Lord, we might have struggled to stay close and live as He has directed us to live before Him, especially when facing temptations; yet the desire to let go gets stronger.

Remember:

But is the fight worth it? What happens if we fail? How does it affect our relationships… with others… with God?

In a recent experience, I faced the tremendous weight of all these thoughts and the pressures that accompanied them. I realize that when I pray and ask God for specifics in my journey, He is not short on providing them for me… IF they line up with His perfect will for me. I’ve learned that somehow the enemy of our soul knows what we are praying and trusting God for. Substitutes might present themselves as God’s answers. But ‘Lo and Behold’ many red flags are presented with them to let us know… uh uh that’s not God.

Yet, in our desperation for the answer, we might exclaim, “But God, it’s a 7 on the scale of 10. This must be Your answer.” There’s a marker, or measure that is used in retail stores before checkout is completed; it’s called LANA. Look-Alike… Not Alike. We can apply that same principle here. In fact, I did when deciding whether a gift was from my Heavenly Father or not. But I was very slow in applying it. I kept waiting and hoping that maybe I would sense in my spirit a ‘go-ahead… it’s close to it.’ I was surprised at so many professing believers who encouraged me to go forward. These were they who had settled… and ended up giving into sin.

I thank God for His ever-present help to us in times of trouble. The Holy Spirit continued to draw me into prayer each time I saw a red flag. There were times I cried to our Father, “wait longer?” I knew the answer. What I did each time was what Jesus taught us to do in order to obtain victory over our enemy.

1 Corinthians 10:13

Remember:

Let’s revisit some of the questions I posted above.

Is the fight worth it? 1 Cor 9:24-27 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore, I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus, I fight not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified. Fight to Win!

What happens if we fail? We feel guilt. Fellowship with God and the Body of Christ is broken.

How does it affect my relationships… with others… with God? We feel like a complete failure because others are watching our Christian Walk; even those in the valley of decision can be affected. We lose our witness. We distance ourselves from God and other believers. This is what satan is after. He knows your salvation is secure. He just wants to make certain your effective witness to others is tainted by public or private sins.

Can you be restored? If so, how? Take time to go through the scriptures below:

Acknowledge & Express to God that you have fallen. He already knows. So let Him in on it. He cares and He loves you.

The great blessing of having fellowship with other believers, you can have trusted individuals who will pray with you. This may be an elder in the Church, a trusted Christian friend… and even a stranger who is mature in Christ and willing to take the matter to God with you.

A prayer when you fall into temptation: “Lord, you overcame Satan’s temptations. … Please, Lord, give me the wisdom to walk away when I am tempted, and the clarity to see the way out that you will provide. Thank you, Lord, that you are a faithful deliverer and that I can count on your help in my time of need. Thank you for being here for me.”

When the prodigal son decided to return, he knew that nothing compares to the love of his father. He knew that his father will still accept him without hesitation. Read Luke 15:11-32

We are the modern-day prodigal sons and Jesus wants to embrace us with His unconditional love.

Hebrews 4:16 “Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

There is nothing stronger than God’s Love for Us

But wait! There’s more… P.I.C.C. will be hitting the trails again to help those in need. We are asking our friends for prayers and financial gifts of support in order to meet the needs of others less fortunate and the hurting. We have all been impacted by loss and grief over friends and loved ones during these two years of the pandemic. Our goal during this phase is to reach those hurting from sudden loss and unexpected events that have shaken and devastated lives. This is the time the Body of Christ, the Church, readies itself to impact souls for the sake of the Gospel. Looking back should help us to remember how we made it through. During the course of this year, we would like to give small practical gifts with the scriptures, the Words of Life, to everyone. We cannot do this without you. Giving is easy on every page. Just look for the Donate Button. We Are the People In Charge of Change.
