America is a nation built by immigrants. Our American journey and success would simply not be possible without the many generations of immigrants who have come to our shores from every corner of the globe. They left everything behind, including family. Many of these immigrants were fleeing religious persecution and others were simply were looking for a better life for themselves and their children – seeking the American Dream.
We welcomed these immigrants with open arms and helped them make a new start in a new country! They were grateful and determined to assimilate and be known as Americans. They learned our language and our customs. They gave back in many ways. They also showed us a glimpse of their heritage, but first and foremost, they were Americans!
Many came through Ellis Island. Looming above New York Harbor nearby, the Statue of Liberty provided a majestic welcome to those passing through Ellis Island. On a plaque at the entrance to the statue’s pedestal is engraved a sonnet called “The New Colossus,” written in 1883 by Emma Lazarus as part of a fundraising contest. Its most famous passage speaks to the statue’s role as a welcoming symbol of freedom and democracy for the millions of immigrants who came to America seeking a new and better life:
“Give me your tired, your poor
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
One example Ben Carson gave about immigrants were the Vietnamese. Dr. Carson said: “When the Vietnamese came to the United States they often faced prejudice from everyone—White, Black, and Hispanics. But they didn’t beg for handouts and often took the lowest jobs offered. Even well-educated individuals didn’t mind sweeping floors if it was a paying job. Today many of these same Vietnamese are property owners and entrepreneurs.”
Now, fast forward to 2016! We have endured years of illegal aliens invading our country, taking our jobs, getting free benefits, committing crimes and so on! Many of them hate America and want to change our country to their ideal. Well, it’s NOT happening!!
Our current administration is allowing countless Muslim “refugees” into our country, and along with draining our resources, we also have had many incidents to do with ISIS. All too often we see we angry mobs, acts of terrorism ,sanctuary cities, crime and fear There is no way to vet these refugees, so they should not be allowed to enter our borders! If we look at what has been happening overseas, in open-border countries, we can see the destruction that has been left in their wake! If Hillary is allowed to become President she will continue the process of allowing these refugees in. In fact she wants to allow even more in, without proper vetting.
Locally, we have many illegal aliens who have been in this country for years, that do not even know our language. During the Flint water crisis, many of them were not even aware of the danger of toxic water, because they didn’t understand what was being reported. We were supposed to feel sorry for them, but they had plenty of time to learn our language, become legal and assimilate.
We do need a wall, as Donald Trump plans, and enough manpower to secure our border and keep illegal immigrants out! What part of “illegal” do people not get? If you look at other countries, such as Mexico, it is clear that we cannot march into their lands illegally – there would be stiff penalties. But here in America, we give them food stamps, welfare, free medical care and so on! Letting all these illegals in and giving them everything, is slowly eroding our freedoms! This MUST stop! Until we get the borders secure and adequate vetting, the door must remain closed. We have to put America and its citizens first!
We want to welcome immigrants, but only if they come in through the right door – the legal door. They must cross our borders ready to assimilate. They need to love America and want to live as an Americans and contribute to our society. We will not allow them to change our nation into what they want! We want people who will help our country grow! We need to make America safe again!
Pray for our world, our country and our leaders!
