No Greater Love….

Valentine’s Day is a special day set aside to express love for sweethearts, friends, family and all those around us.

I remember celebrating Valentine’s Day as a child. We would get packs of “valentines” (little love note cards), sign our name to the back and then distribute them to all of our classmates. Sometimes it was special to receive a valentine from a secret admirer, but often it was a little awkward. It sure could make you blush!

This Valentine’s day, let us look at the love that God shows us every day – not just on “special” days.

God demonstrates his ongoing sacrificial love…

God has known us from the very beginning.  “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb.” Jeremiah 1:5

God knows all there is to know about us, both the good and bad, and loves us anyway (Psalm 39). I don’t know about you, but that thought is quite daunting. The thought that God knows even my innermost thoughts – ones that aren’t always what they should be, and still loves me? WOW!

God loves us with an everlasting love. There is no beginning and no end to His love. Do we deserve that? Absolutely not, but God loves us that much!  “The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. Jeremiah 31:3 (KJV)

God promises to be faithful to us. He will never disappoint us, leave us or abandon us. We can count on Him to be with us always. If you’re like me and have sometimes felt alone, this is huge!! “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” Hebrews 13:5 (KJV)

We are precious to God – just as children are precious to a parent. God calls us his own children. “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God” 1 John 3:1(KJV)

Most of all, God gave the supreme gift to prove His love for us: He sent his only Son to earth to die for us! Jesus is God’s “valentine” to us. Has anyone else ever died for you? Has anyone else’s death even come close to giving you what the death of Jesus has given you?

Christ died on the cross so we could have the hope of eternal life!

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16

As you celebrate Valentine’s Day with those you love, take time to reflect on God’s enduring love for you and ask yourself how you might share God’s love to others in return.

About Gail Pinder

I was born in New Jersey and raised in a small town in Pennsylvania. I have lived in many places – Texas, Arkansas, Delaware and finally Michigan. Several years ago, I met a wonderful man – a Vietnam Navy vet who shares my love of God and Country! We have been happily married for more than 18 years. I have two children of my own and Emery has two children. We have four wonderful grandchildren. Emery and I both have Multiple Sclerosis. He is now in a powerchair and I am his caregiver. Life is somewhat challenging, but we do the best we can. We tell everyone that “We have MS, but it doesn’t have us!” I have always loved to write and my dream was to becoming a “writer”. PICC gave me a window to my dream and an opportunity to share my thoughts with others. Our faith is strong and I don’t know where we would be without it. We are determined to spread a little sunshine in a darkened world.
