This is My Country!

I am an American and proud of it!! I was born and raised during a time where we loved our country and knew how to show it. What happened??? What has turned us in to a cold, angry land? What has hardened our hearts???

Many patriotic songs have been written about America. One of my favorites, is “This is My Country” composed in 1940. The lyrics are by Don Raye and the music is by Al Jacobs. In 1940, when this song was written, America was not in a good place. We were just coming out of the great depression and surrounded by the world at war. Life wasn’t easy, but people pulled together and helped one another. You can gauge how people felt by reading the stanzas of the song:

“This Is My Country”

What difference if I hail from North or South
Or from the East or West?
My heart is filled with love
For all of these.
I only know I swell with pride
And deep within my breast
I thrill to see Old Glory
Paint the breeze.

This is my country
Land of my birth
This is my country
Grandest on Earth

This is my country
Land of my choice
This is my country
Hear my proud voice.

I pledge thee my allegiance
America the bold
For this is my country
To have and to hold

Many Americans have no concept of the amazing privilege they have. We live in the greatest country in the world, yet there are people who cannot grasp that concept. The basic idea of patriotism is rooted in a love for your fellow man and for the country that gave you your freedom. This country, through the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, gives you both protection and freedom. We should give our nation our love, devotion, and deep respect.  This is patriotism.

Under the current administration, it’s been difficult to feel the same pride we felt long ago. Instead of “America the bold”, it’s more like “America the wimp”. Our reputation has been tarnished in the last eight years. Instead of being strong and bold, Obama has apologized to just about every country and, as a result, other countries no longer respect us. Christianity is under attack by our own government! Our military has been denigrated to its lowest points in decades Our inner cities are more like battlegrounds and our infrastructure has been allowed to virtually disintegrate. We are being invaded by thousands of “muslim refugees” who have not been vetted – some of whom who want to destroy us individually and as a country. It has become evident that for many years, our leaders are not interested in the citizens, only the votes they garner to allow them to continue their lifetime of corrupt careers in government.

It is time for us to wake up and educate our people as to the concepts and practices of patriotism before it is too late. In the 1960’s when prayer was taken out of schools, we Christian Conservatives sat on our blessed ass-urance and did nothing. When the Supreme Court illegally legalized abortion, Christian Conservatives did the same thing. It is time for us to do something. It is time for the values of patriotism to become the norm once again.

Those of us who disagree with the way things are today yearn for the way things used to be. Political correctness stifles our very breath and cuts us to the soul. We are fighting to get our country back. Many of us believe that Donald Trump can begin a pathway to restore our nation.

We are at a crossroads – we can continue down the destructive path we’ve been on for the last eight years – or, for once in our lives, we can make a stand! This may be our last opportunity to make the change that will hopefully restore America to the great nation she once was. The choice is yours.

Ben Franklin said it best. The deliberations of the Constitutional Convention of 1787 were held in strict secrecy. Consequently, anxious citizens gathered outside Independence Hall when the proceedings ended in order to learn what had been produced behind closed doors. The answer was provided immediately.

A woman asked Benjamin Franklin, “Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?” With no hesitation whatsoever, Franklin responded, “A republic, if you can keep it.”

“If you can keep it”………can we?? The ball is in our hands?? Can we make a difference?? Are you willing to try??? Is America worth saving???? I believe it is!

“I pledge thee my allegiance, America the bold, for this is my country – to have and to hold”

About Gail Pinder

I was born in New Jersey and raised in a small town in Pennsylvania. I have lived in many places – Texas, Arkansas, Delaware and finally Michigan. Several years ago, I met a wonderful man – a Vietnam Navy vet who shares my love of God and Country! We have been happily married for more than 18 years. I have two children of my own and Emery has two children. We have four wonderful grandchildren. Emery and I both have Multiple Sclerosis. He is now in a powerchair and I am his caregiver. Life is somewhat challenging, but we do the best we can. We tell everyone that “We have MS, but it doesn’t have us!” I have always loved to write and my dream was to becoming a “writer”. PICC gave me a window to my dream and an opportunity to share my thoughts with others. Our faith is strong and I don’t know where we would be without it. We are determined to spread a little sunshine in a darkened world.
